Karen P. Reynolds, Esquire
A certified mediator and family-law attorney who spent fourteen years inside Chester County’s Domestic Relations Office, Karen guides families through divorce, custody, and support toward a resolution they can live with, in court or through mediation.
She Knows the Chester County Family Court System From the Inside
Before entering private practice, Karen spent 17 years serving within the Chester County family court system: 11 as Assistant Director and 3 as Chief Staff Attorney of the Domestic Relations Office, following her clerkship with the Honorable James P. MacElree II, President Judge of Family Court. She understands not only the law, but also the local procedures, statutory factors, and practical realities that shape a family-law case.
For you, that means clear, candid guidance about what matters, what to expect, and where a practical resolution may be possible. When you’re deciding whether something is worth pursuing, that kind of grounded, informed perspective often brings clarity.
“I hate seeing someone feel stuck and out of control of their situation. I always want to find them a path to help them regain control over their lives.”
Ask Karen why she does this work and she’ll tell you family law found her. Over the years she kept gravitating toward it, because she can’t stand watching someone feel powerless in their own life. Giving people a path back to solid ground is the whole reason she practices.
How Karen Works With You
Karen knows that divorce, custody, and support touch everything that matters: your children, your home, your financial future. Her first job is to take the mystery out of the process.
Your first meeting probably won’t look like what you’re bracing for. She keeps it intentionally informal, and she opens with two things: everything you say is confidential, and nobody actually wants to be sitting across from a family law attorney, so let’s just talk. She avoids getting technical on purpose. Early on, her job is mostly to educate, handing you enough information to make a situation that once felt chaotic start to feel manageable.
From there, she will:
- Tell you where your case realistically stands and what to expect at each stage.
- Keep you informed in plain language, not legalese.
- Pursue an agreement out of court where it’s reasonable, because going to court puts the decision in the hands of a judge or hearing officer who sees only a limited view of your family’s life. When court is necessary, she prepares carefully and advocates fully.
- Be straight with you when emotions and outcomes don’t line up. Whether you want to fight over everything or give it all away just to be done, she walks you through the likely legal and practical outcomes first, so your decisions are informed ones.
For Karen, the sign that a first meeting went well has nothing to do with the law. It’s when someone tells her, on the way out, that they feel so much better than when they walked in. That’s really about getting some control back.
Karen is also a certified mediator, and whether she’s mediating or advocating for you, the approach is the same: stay goal-oriented, get creative, and be honest about what’s realistic. She’s direct, too, that the outcome is yours to live with, so the two of you have to work at it as a team. Over 34 years, she has built a reputation for diligence, preparedness, and trustworthiness with the county’s judges and court staff.
“Karen was warm, compassionate and made sure I understood what was happening at all times. I wish I had started with Karen from the beginning.” — Emily S.
Family Law Was the Path From the Start
Karen’s commitment to this work began before she ever passed the bar. At Villanova, as a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, she won the National Gabrielli Family Law Moot Court Competition.
